Saying I love these kids would definitely be an understatement. I’ve been lucky enough to shoot their last two birthday parties (see 2011’s here!) and an amazing session back in November (here), and again just a couple of weeks ago. I’ve also been able to get to know their mom this year as all our kiddos went to the same preschool. She’s one of my biggest fans/cheerleaders and for that I’m truly grateful!

Little Marlow will be 1 next week. As any parent will tell you, the first birthday is always such a huge milestone. So Mom brought the birthday girl to the studio, along with a smash cake that was bigger (and I’m sure weighed more) than she is. I’m looking forward to being the family photographer at her first birthday party this weekend.
You’ll be seeing a lot more “studio” shoots on the blog in the coming days/weeks. We’re expanding our offerings here at courtney ortiz photography by offering a very limited number of studio sessions for the remainder of the year. Feel free to contact us at the studio at courtney@courtneyortiz.com or by phone 954-558-6893 for more information.

This little guy was born at 31 weeks, and spent many weeks in the NICU. Fast forward 8 months and he’s a bouncing baby boy! I was thrilled I got to spend some time with him and his momma the other day.
15+ blog comments and they receive an 8×10 print! …show some love…
There’s something to be said when Michelle, from MK Kids asks me to photograph her own “kids”. Knowing that she knows every photographer in South Florida, it’s definitely an honor and privilege. MK Kids is South Florida’s leading talent and model management firm for children. South Florida has an extremely busy modeling season from October to April. If you think your “kid” has what it takes, check out the website here.
These images were taken in my new studio. Studio mini sessions are available Saturday, August 13 and September 17. Email courtney@courtneyortiz.com for more info.

One of my favorite things about my new house is the light. There really is amazing natural light in almost every room of the house. (my office and guest room excluded). It’s one of the reasons I lean towards keeping the walls white. Everything looks so bright and fresh. Especially in my kids’ rooms. They each have one large double window that faces east. They truly get beautiful light all day long. The other day I was lurking around with my camera attempting some shots of Owen (lord knows, he’s not the most cooperative subject), when I just straight out asked him. “Can I take some pictures of you in your bed with your space shuttle?” The answer was surprisingly, “Yes.” Simple images of my boy. Four years and seven months old. He loves space, the space shuttle, Star Wars, Ironman, and just being himself.
I think this is the last of my regular studio sessions to share. One of the special things about this family is that they were a referral from a dear friend of mine, Donna Boucher. Donna is a photographer and writer of the blog “The Quiet Life” and lives in Wisconsin. She was one of the first people that I met online when I started this photography journey over four years ago, and I had the pleasure of meeting her in person at a weekend photography workshop in Chicago in spring of 2009. So when this mom called me and told me I was referred by Donna my heart soared. Take a couple of minutes and read some of Donna’s blog. She started it years ago as a way to document things for her own four children. Donna’s photography is amazing and her heart is huge. Thank you Donna for the referral. I truly appreciate it!
Here it is, another one of the last of the regular studio sessions. And another adorable little boy who is about to be a big brother. Although this mom to be (again) is going to have another little boy. It was really important to her that we get some lollipop shots. It seems that dad has some lollipop images of him when he was a little boy and mom wants to carry on the tradition. I can just imagine the gorgeous wall display those images are going to make; dad, sebastian, and soon to be baby #2 (in a couple of years) all enjoying a luscious much too large lollipop. I’m really looking forward to meeting baby #2 in August. We already have our newborn session tentatively on the calendar.
My two sisters and I have started a new home design blog, sisters not designers. (sistersnotdesigners.com). I use the term “design” loosely. Neither of us are designers, but have just recently all embarked on new life/living situations in the past few months and decided to document it all with pictures, current stories, and anecdotes of growing up in our crazy family. It’s a fun project to work on with them, and it challenges me as a photographer. Taking pictures of “things” doesn’t actually fit into my comfort zone, so it’s a great creative activity for me.
That being said, tomorrow starts our second week of summer vacation. Owen starts soccer camp, and I’m looking to take my kids bowling. (AMF Summer Unplugged, free bowling for the kiddos). I hope you all are enjoying your summer. Have fun and be safe!
Remember, 15+ comments on the blog and this family receives a complimentary 8×10 print. C’mom, show them some love!!!
This session was my last official studio session in my downtown Hollywood studio location. I have a few other sessions to post prior to this one, but after this one, I handed over my key, and called it a day. This adorable little cutie, Stevie, is about to become a big brother at the end of the summer. Mom is having a baby girl!
Today is officially the first day of summer for all kids here in South Florida! My kids got out of school last week, but the rest of the public schools’ last day was yesterday. In celebration of summer, clients that receive 15+ blog comments (on the blog, not facebook) within 7 days of their blog post being published will receive a complimentary 8×10 gift print. Show this family some love!! So starting right now, any post published in June will be in on this.
I do have two downtown Hollywood mini session dates set for October 15 and November 12. A mini session is $125 and includes a 30 minute portrait session, at least 20 images in a password protected online gallery, and in person ordering of your images. All studio specialty products will be available a la carte. Spaces are limited and these are the only mini session dates for 2011 and are available on a first come first serve basis. Email me courtney@courtneyortiz.com or call 9545586893 for more info.
I love these kids!!! Super adorable twins and their uber chic mom means a third birthday to remember. This years’ birthday was an amazing event held at “C By Me, a fresh, one of a kind store where customers of all ages come to design, decorate and personalize their own clothing and accessories, on the spot.” (as taken from their website.). The party was junk food theme and was complete with a visit from the famous South Florida food truck The Gastropod. Which mom said she picked because the vintage airstream trailer turned food truck would look “fabulous” in pictures. What more can a photographer ask for!?
