I have been wanting to do a “real” family lifestyle portrait session at The Girls Strawberry U-pick since first going there during strawberry season last year. (I say “real” because I’m not counting photographing my own family there). The Girls Strawberry U-pick is an amazing amazing place. When talking about it to people who have never been I describe it as a “wonderland.” I don’t think you can truly appreciate what a magical place it is without actually experiencing it for yourself.
Sooooo…..which brings us to this gorgeous family. This was actually a session that I donated to the Children’s Aid Club’s annual “Taste-n-Tell” luncheon. So when Grace called to tell me she was the lucky winner, I took advantage of the situation, and two weeks later we were meeting for the first time in the parking lot outside the entrance.
As I’ve mentioned before I am a member of a professional photographer group made up of all women; SoFly Photographers. We meet once a month to talk shop, and twice a year we have a planned, styled shoot with actual models. It was really awesome, and it makes me reconsider shooting kids and families! 😉
I’ve had some really amazing “Lifestyle Sessions” lately. A “Lifestyle Session” is an on location session where I actually accompany a family on an activity or outing. We just kinda hang out for a couple of hours. It allows for really comfortable, relaxed, and intimate images. So this family wanted me to come with them down to the studio of Romero Britto and do their family session there! AYKM!!! Yes Please!!! So that’s what we did. Met down at Romero Britto’s studio down in the Art and Design District of Miami, toured his space, MET HIM, and took some AWESOME one of a kind family portraits in and around Britto’s studio!!
So Owen broke his arm. After falling at Alex’s house, we took him to Joe Dimaggio’s Children’s Hospital where he was x-rayed. The next day we were sent to see Dr. Storer at the Division of Pediatric Orthopedics, where Owen was casted in bright red. Because its the color of, “Darth Vadar’s light saber.” The experience has been pretty painless. For all of us. Owen has been a tremendous sport and the dr’s over at Memorial have been amazing.
Owen gets his cast off today. After, we’re going straight to the dollar store to buy pool noodles. He can’t wait to go swimming…in our neighbors new pool!
I love these. I received this inspirational and motivational set of notecards from a friend, who is herself both inspiring and motivating. I’d like to frame one each of them to hang in my office. They truly are words to live by. What words do you live by?
April has been an incredibly busy month for me. Which is definitely a wonderful thing. Just some of the gorgeous kids and families who have come by the studio. I offer “Studio Sessions” in and around downtown Hollywood on Saturdays from 9-2. Appointments last 30-40 minutes, include at least 10 images in a password protected gallery, in studio viewing of your images, and an 8×12 print; $100. Contact me at courtney@courtneyortiz.com
Our families are very close. So of course we went over to Alex’s house, the day after he was casted, to see the new cast. While visiting Owen tripped and fell while running on carpet.
I’ve decided that my favorite subjects are families on VACATION!! I’ve had two more vacation sessions since photographing the family on the cruise ship. (you can see images from that session here)
Hollywood Beach Florida is truly a gem, a diamond in the rough. I challenge anyone to find anything like it on the east coast of Florida. It’s quaint, kitschy, colorful, and family friendly. I had the privilege of photographing this family while on vacation on Hollywood Beach. Two of the most gorgeous boys I’ve ever seen, and mom was 3 months away from having boy #3.
