North Carolina. We spent four days in Flat Rock at my grandparent's house. Flat Rock is just outside of Hendersonville, which is south of Asheville.
Stella really enjoyed playing with Milo.
Looks like they're planning something naughty!
My brother shooting some hoops. (What you don't see is the hoop is really only about 5 feet off the ground!)
My dad!! Taking a break on the walk up to the Connemara Goat Farm. The goat farm is at the home of the famed American writer Carl Sandburg. You can tour his home or just play with the goats.
Grandad
The "blue steel."
I have one more vacation post to come this week! Lots going on in the studio. Stop by and say, "hi!"
If you missed out on the Fall newsletter, it's now available online! HERE!

Last week, the third courtney ortiz photography newsletter was sent to the masses. Getting the newsletter out was the one thing I wanted to accomplish before leaving for vacation, and I did it. The one thing I didn’t do was completely update my mailing list so if I missed you (a sincere apology if I did) it’s now available online. Click here!!!!!
My family and I were away for a week. A complete seven days! We spent four days in North Carolina, visiting my grandparents, and three days in Tampa. I shot a wedding on Saturday, so we decided to make a family trip out of it. One of the highlights of Tampa was meeting up with an old high school friend and his family. It had been 15 years since I had last seen my best friend’s older brother. After having breakfast together, their gorgeous daughter and I snuck off for a short mini session. One of the greatest joys of my job is being able to photograph the children of my friends.
She is the true essence of an “American Girl.”
Remember the Matilda Jane Clothing Trunk Show and School Supply drive is Thursday, August 19 from 1-6. The MJC fall line will be available for purchase. Drop off a donation of school supplies during the month of August and be entered to win gift certificates from courtney ortiz photography, The Haircut Hangout, Hair Industry, L-Bows Creations, and other local businesses!! Lots going on at courtney ortiz photography this summer. Super excited about my new relationship with waytutucute.com. We just completed our first ever model search and photo session.
Also, courtney ortiz photography and the Haircut Hangout (become a fan on facebook) are sponsoring a “Back to School” school supply drive for the month of August. If you’re coming in for a back to school haircut or for a “studio session” please remember those less fortunate and bring in assorted school supplies to benefit the kids at Kids in Distress.
Mark your calendars for the Matilda Jane Clothing trunk show/Open House, on Thursday, August 19 from 12-6pm. Stop by for refreshments and to check out the latest fall fashions from Matilda Jane. If you aren’t familiar with Matilda Jane Clothing, please take a minute to check out their website. MJC is by far, one of the most unique and beautiful clothing lines out there for little girls. And are ONLY available through trunk shows! Perfect for back to school!!!! It’s also an opportunity to check out the latest courtney ortiz photography studio products. New holiday card designs will be featured! School supplies will be collected that day as well. Bring in a donation of school supplies and you’ll be entered in a raffle, featuring prizes from courtney ortiz photography and The Haircut Hangout.
This little girl came by to visit me at the studio the other day!!! I took the opportunity to photograph her in some other gorgeous waytutucute.com products.
Found these amazing camera-eye viewer thingies at Genius Jones. They had four different models. I bought them all. Expect to see more of them in the future.
I am so excited to post these images, and unfortunately I can only post a few. Waytutucute.com and courtney ortiz photography have worked together over the past couple of weeks to plan and put together our first ever model search and shoot. Ten finalists were chosen and photographed in some of the hottest looks available at waytutucute.com. Out of the 10 finalists photographed, one will be the waytutucute.com Cover Girl, although all the images will be used on the online boutique’s website and promotional materials.
I want to give a special thanks to the Atlantic Sands Beach Suites on Hollywood Beach for hosting the event!
I am falling in love with what is Hollywood Beach more and more each day. My family and I are living on the beach this summer until the end of August, and it’s been a transition for sure, but I know that my husband and I are going to look back on these three months as some of the most magical of our lives.
One of the reasons that I am falling in love more and more with Hollywood Beach is because I am shooting here all the time. Everyone who has grown up in South Florida has some memory of Hollywood Beach and when my clients step out onto that broadwalk for the first time in years, they are immediately taken back. The look has changed (thank god!), but the sights, the sounds, the smells, the people, the families are still there. They’re the same as they were when we were kids. This gorgeous soon to be mother of two, grew up in Miami Beach, but remembers that when her mother took her and her brother to the beach, they always came to Hollywood Beach. We even reminisced about the old pizza place that used to be just south of the bandshell (I can’t remember the name).
Marci is five weeks away from having a little girl. This little one has big shoes to fill. She has an adorable and charming big brother.
I had a “lifestyle session” on the beach this evening, and my family was waiting for me on the Hollywood Broadwalk playground as I walked home. (A benefit of living on the beach and shooting on the beach is the commute.)
…a joyous sight indeed!…
Black and white really spoke to me tonight. It’s been speaking to me more and more. Which is a change.
We flew the kite again tonight.
But tonight, it was Lenny’s first time!
Her laughter is sunshine….gorgeous, beautiful, and warm.
I haven’t been photographing my kids as much as I thought I would this summer, but as long as I’m getting images like the following, I’m all about quality over quantity.
My dad came over last week, one evening, and we went kite flying.
Let’s talk about wardrobe and family photography sessions on the beach. I 100% encourage clients to NOT wear all white on the beach. Especially all white and matching! I do this for a number of reasons, although the #1 most important reason is……IT’S BORING. I tell potential clients, “If you wouldn’t dress that way to go out to dinner, then please don’t dress that way for your family portraits.” It is my goal as a photographer not to just capture your family, but to capture true and genuine experiences, interactions, and emotions. To document the true essence of who your family is at that exact moment of time. In 20 years when you are looking back through your Session Album, I want you to remember how much fun you had that day…together. A Lifestyle Session on the beach, with me, is just that; a fun afternoon at the beach with the people you love most. You won’t have those memories if you’re all wearing matching outfits, standing stiffly as a group in front of the ocean saying, “Cheese.”
This is truly photography for the modern family.
Interested in a Lifestyle Session on Hollywood Beach???? courtney@courtney.com
Now, the only reason these cuties are wearing matching dresses is because they’re twins! xxoo
No details were spared for this gorgeous baby shower held Saturday at Steak 954 at the W Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale Beach. This mom is celebrating the arrival of a baby girl. With a toddler boy already at home, and a precious baby girl on the way, life can’t get any more perfect. Congratulations!!! I hope to meet baby Marlow when she arrives!
As the guests were saying their final goodbyes, I couldn’t help myself but play around and capture some of the details of all the frilly girlie things!
Won’t Big Brother have lots of new things to play with and explore!
