It was just over a year ago that I first met Jonah and Zoe. Zoe was just sitting up on her own. Where does the time go?
I’m heading to New York City this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to meeting new clients and making new friends. I have only one appointment left on Saturday. Call the studio or email me for more information.
As a portrait artist, my vision goes beyond what I see in my camera. It’s also how I feel the final piece should be viewed and enjoyed. It’s important that the final tangible piece I place in your hands is of the absolute best quality. I also understand that choosing your favorite images in a gallery of sometimes over 100 images can be a daunting task at best (Yes, 2-3 hours with me during a lifestyle session can result in that many images. It’s your story!).
When you commission me for portrait art, the process is collaborative from the moment we first speak on the phone until the artwork goes up on your walls. After your portrait session, we will make another appointment to meet again either at your home or at Gallery 2014 in downtown Hollywood. Together we go over all of your images and discuss your options. You get a chance to see and touch real samples and design your wall gallery display that best fits your home’s decor and budget.
This family knew right away that they wanted a gallery display in their “Play Zone.” The bright colors of their portraits meld perfectly with the bright colors of the toys. The family wanted to hang their portrait art in an area of the home where the pieces would get the most enjoyment. Together we chose the four images that best showcased the personality of their sons and them together as a family.
Print options range from traditional prints that can be matted and framed to non-traditional mediums like printing on wood, metal, and acrylic. The latter options do not need a frame and come ready to hang. This family wanted to really make a statement and decided on 4 16×20 gallery-wrap canvases. Owning the digital negatives was also important to this young family, and that is why I make all digital negatives available to clients who make a minimum investment in art.
Displaying large-scale portraits in your home, whether they are framed prints or gallery-wrapped canvas will take your breath away every time you walk into the room.
I offer full installation of your portrait art. (Not everyone has a handy hubby.)
As an “add-on” the family opted for the mini accordion brag book. These 3×3 custom designed brag books with magnetic closure, come in a clear plastic cover in sets of three. Perfect gift for family or for yourself.
The portrait art from Courtney Ortiz Photography will last forever. These are pieces that will be passed down through the generations for both you and your children to enjoy.
Meet Justin and Ari. Two adorable brothers who I had the pleasure of playing with one Sunday afternoon for a lifestyle session. As you can see from our time together we all really had a great time. What I’m really excited to share with you is how this family uses their images to create a breathtaking statement wall gallery in their “Play Zone.” I was there for the install last week. (I do offer complete install of your wall gallery.) Stay tuned for that one tomorrow.

The downtown Hollywood mini session dates have been announced, and there are only a few spots left in November. The studio is closed for the holidays starting December 1 and anything booked before Thanksgiving is guaranteed delivery for Christmas and anything booked before November 8 is guaranteed delivery before Hanukkah.

I’m really loving all this newborn goodness lately. Almost makes me want to have another one…almost! Ayden was 1 month old when I came over to “play”. I can honestly say, this was the sleepiest baby I’ve ever had the joy to work with. Plus, mom and dad are really into costumes, and had a whole bunch ready for me. Which made playing dress up fun!
Lots going on in the studio. The busiest time of the year has begun and my signature Downtown Hollywood session dates can be found here. Call or email for more information.
See you soon,

Sometimes my favorite images from a newborn session are the ones I capture as soon as I get to the house. Dad let me in, and this is exactly how I found Ayden and his mommy.
Annie and Carly came to meet me for one of my signature Downtown Hollywood lifestyle sessions. These two young women are beautiful, brilliant, and have a bright future ahead of them.
Downtown Hollywood mini sessions are available on the following dates:
9/22
10/12
10/13
10/26
11/16

So proud to share that the images I took of my sister’s bridal shower are currently featured on the HGTV Gardens website. It was a true labor of love. Beyond the planning of the bridal shower itself, we also completed a huge backyard renovation just for the occasion. But planning and preparing with my other sister, and being able to pull this thing off, is one of my proudest moments. Images can also be seen on my personal website Sisters Not Designers.
The HGTV Gardens feature is full details from the shower. We did everything ourselves but make the cupcakes.
Thanks for taking the time to share in this joyous event with me.
Those first few days with your first born are precious and all too fleeting. Meet Crosby. He was one week old when I came over to meet him and hang with his mom and dad for a bit.
I love new parents and as a mom of three, they always make me chuckle. These two didn’t disappoint. They were full of awe of their new son and full of questions for me. I felt like the sage old medicine woman imparting my almost 7 years of maternal wisdom on these fresh new recruits. (scary right?!?)
I love being able to capture these moments with new babies. It allows me as an artist and photographer to really allow my clients to tell their own story with a little help from me.
If you are expecting, just remember the best time to photograph the new baby is within the first two weeks. Don’t hesitate to even tentatively set a date with your photographer (me), to make sure you make the calendar.
See you soon,

I walked into the house and Crosby was perfectly swaddled and bathed in the most delicious light.
Mom is half Japanese and these paper cranes were used as decor for the reception. It’s a perfect personal touch to the nursery, specially since they didn’t find out what they were having.
I was honored when Stacy Boegem of The Happiness Agenda invited me to join her video blog to discuss “mommy life/work balance.” In Stacy’s own words, “Is there really such a thing?” My interview with Stacy is live on her blog.
Courtney Ortiz Photography is celebrating a 6 year anniversary this September. What girl wouldn’t want to go to NYC for her birthday?? To celebrate this huge milestone, I am announcing my first scheduled travel dates to the Big Apple. I will be in New York City October 4-6 to visit some very special clients and have limited spots to meet some very special new ones.
The following image of my favorite oldest daughter was taken on our family trip to New York City this past August. It was taken on Portra-800 35mm film on a Canon AE-1. I shot strictly film on vacay (along with my trusty iphone 5). More New York City vacation images are on Sisters Not Designers.

Evan and Avery have been visiting me all the way from Switzerland, every year since 2009. We have been all over South Florida documenting their summers here in the states. But for this Lifestyle Session, we went back to where it all started, the same beach where we had our first session back in fall of 2009. ALOT has changed. I really enjoy watching these two kiddos grow up.
I’ve been designing gorgeous coffee table books for this family. I can’t wait to see what this one will look like!
